OUR GUESTS ARE ALWAYS OUR PRIORITY

No matter where you are in this suite, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the sea, the way every royal should. Combine the adjacent veranda suite to make it a Grand Wintergarden Suite -- a 1,566-square-foot, two-bedroom enclave. It’s called the Family Suite (available on select ships), but it’s really about the kids—and kids at heart. This bi-level suite has its own slide (yes, it’s big enough for adults), in addition to bunk beds, a dedicated cinema and video game lounge, and an air hockey table. Outside on the balcony, there’s a play area, table tennis, and a hot tub. For the adults, there’s a primary suite with Frette linens and an impressive large-screen television that stows in the ceiling.

Book now on Sun Princess® or Star Princess®, and look forward to the exclusive world that awaits you.

A suite described as "one-bedroom" is likely to have that bedroom separated from the remainder of the suite. With this in mind, cruise lines have been introducing larger and more elaborate suites on every new ship they launch. Of course, all suites are gorgeous on every ship and we haven’t seen one we didn’t like, but here are a few that made our favorites list. Simply browse through stateroom options and select the amount you’re willing to pay the upgrade. Then, you’ll be notified via email if your bid was accepted.

Square footage varies based on stateroom category and deck location. Designed with even the largest families in mind — it can hold up to eight people! — the suite also features one of the most jaw-dropping balcony views on the entire ship. And, like all high-end suites on Royal Caribbean ships, it comes with a Royal Genie — a personal butler assigned to cater to your every need. The mahogany beds that you'll find in the master bedrooms are upholstered in steel-blue mohair — a striking touch — and are flanked by walls covered in cashmere. A few steps away, a marble-clad master bathroom offers more luxurious Ralph Lauren design touches.

When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. The Ultimate Family Suite on Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas, which debuted in 2018, really is the ultimate family suite.

However, your total price for the cruise will be lower because you're paying for fewer nights, both in terms of fare and automatically added daily gratuities. Minisuites or junior suites are a step down from fancier suites and therefore sell for cheaper fares. The living room in Royal Caribbean's Ultimate Family Suite comes with a slide between the two floors. Virgin Voyages' Rockstar Quarters come with an extra-large private terrace.

You'll get a better deal on a suite in the fall and on sailings right before or after holidays, such as in early November or mid-January. One way to save money on a suite is to book your cruise during shoulder season when fewer folks travel. A daily stateroom attendant dedicated to making sure your stay is spectacular.

We pondered everything, so you can feel the love on the cruise vacation of your dreams. As its name suggests, the Pinnacle Suite really is the peak of Holland America Lines’ luxury offering. It’s a destination cabin – one that travellers often dream of checking into. Each one – Queen Elizabeth, Victoria and Mary 2 plus the upcoming Queen Anne – is designed to turn heads wherever they sail.

Whether you’re traveling with kids or bringing the whole extended adventure squad along, you’ll find spacious, well-appointed cruise rooms designed to suit all your vacation needs. Princess’ new Sanctuary Collection is designed as an oceangoing oasis that elevates the art of relaxation and serenity with exclusive, next-level accommodations and benefits. Sanctuary Collection staterooms and experience will debut in October of 2024 on Sun Princess(R) and on her sister ship, Star Princess(R) when she enters service in 2025. Silversea is one of the world’s leading ultra-luxury cruise lines. As you’d imagine from such a lofty reputation, they have some top-tier cabins to match. Like the gleaming Owner’s Suite aboard Silver Dawn, which is designed as much for socialising as it is solitude.

If you are a party type and louder sounds are not bothering, everything would be OK. If you organize a family voyage, however, you should look for a cabin away from the noisiest areas in the cruise ship deck plans. The first thing to look for in the cruise ship plan is the engine room location. Other amenities include sofabed, TV, phone, seating, safe, mini-bar, a bathroom with shower, a washroom (with junior tub), bathrobes, hairdryer.

The latter is your go-to for learning about the fascinating areas the ship visits. These two-room suites feature a large living area with floor to ceiling panoramic windows. Loft Suites are "duplex suites" (on two levels) and available on the world's largest passenger ships of Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class and Quantum-class.

The Best Time to Cruise Alaska 2024: A Month-by-Month Guide

October is one of the wettest months in Alaska, so prepare for low clouds and rain. Alaska weather in October is manageable if you pack the right gear and protective clothing. Even if you're a seasoned fisherman, we recommend using a local guide to help find you the best fishing spot. On dry land, bears are more common in May, though not as frequently spotted as they are in peak summer.

Take off by dogsled across thousand-year-old ice as you soak in otherworldly sights. Trek across the majestic Mendenhall Glacier for breathtaking views of the wildest country. Get to know wildlife, big and small, that call this wilderness home, like otters, eagles, bears, and whales.

Another thing to keep in mind when deciding the best month for your Alaskan cruise is wildlife viewing opportunities. The port is set on Chichagoff Island, which is known for its large bear population. Wildlife lovers have plenty of opportunities to search for whales and eagles here; adventure-seekers won't want to miss the ZipRider, with its course of six zip lines. Fall is also mating season for wildlife, so expect to see some friskiness.

Alaska Cruise Itineraries

Alaska cruise weather can be chilly (in the 40s to 50s) first thing in the morning and at night. However, if it's a sunny summer day, temperatures can shoot into the 70s and even low 80s. It also rains a lot in Alaska; it's drier in the spring than in the summer. If you want to see landlocked areas, such as Denali National Park, you can tack a cruise line-operated tour onto the beginning or end of your sailing for a seamless land and sea vacation. It's easier than fumbling with multiple train, bus, ferry and hotel reservations to cobble together the same trip on your own.

It is one of the best times to visit Alaska if you are on a budget. In my experience, this is the best time to go to Alaska to bag a deal and avoid the larger summer crowds. There’s no denying that Alaska April weather can dramatically influence travel plans. The temperatures and conditions are unpredictable which necessitates a degree of flexibility so keep that in mind.

Alaska temperatures can be unpredictable, so come prepared with the proper wardrobe. Disney Cruise Line is sending its 2,700-passenger Disney Wonder out of Vancouver for 15 week-long roundtrips, one five-day spin leaving on July 24 and an extended nine-day voyage on July 15. I can see the advantage of doing the sun as it is a smaller ship. You may be able to find some deals towards mid-August, but expect full fares for the most part. You can expect to see lots of snow-capped mountains, and there are fewer insects and mosquitos.

For more on what to bring on an Alaska cruise, check out our Alaska cruise packing list. Alaska's capital city is interesting because no road leads from here to the rest of the state. It's located at the base of Mount Juneau, and you can only get there via boat or small plane — even residents have to bring their cars to Juneau via ferry.

In some parts of the state, dog sledding is still the primary mode of transportation through the winter months. Visit Alaska and get the experience for yourself at the Skagway Yukon Discovery and Dog Sled Tour. The Siberian Huskies are sweet and energetic, and the ride is a thrill. For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices. The Northern Lights are less visible this time of the year owing to longer daylight hours. For me I found  Denali and  Kenai Fjords some of the best national parks to visit in April.

Leaning towards doing the Bliss based upon the posts above and having more kid activities for our 9 year old. However, the shoulder season has become more prevalent in recent years, making great deals harder to find. Knowing when to book your cruise can help you save money on your trip. During May, you’ll find several whale species along Alaska’s inside passage. By this time of the year, most of the whales will have completed their migration from the warm waters of Mexico to Alaska, where they will spend the summer.

The Alaska cruise season generally runs from May to September, with occasional cruises in April and October. New small ship cruises, adventure trips, ships & the best deals at your fingertips. Norwegian Gem Cruise Ship: Review, Photos & Departure Ports on Cruise Critic

gem norwegian cruise reviews

My 13 year old slept in the second bedroom and it was very cozy. Announcements only in Spanish...now there's an idea! Selection of food at buffet was generally good. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open to your very own private balcony. Stylish and sophisticated appointments enhance these modern rooms.

Ship Overview

The shower was also a good-sized tub, but I can see that less mobile people would struggle to lift a leg over it to step into the shower. There is body wash and shampoo in containers on the wall of the shower and the toilet is in a small room off the bathroom. The cruise left out of the Manhattan Cruise Port. We took the train in from Connecticut, and we overnighted in Ink 48, which is an excellent hotel just a block from NCL’s pier 88 in Hell’s Kitchen. This is a seemingly safe neighborhood that has little to do in walking distance, though the Landmark Tavern is a place for good food and drink.

The Haven Deluxe Owners Suite

We ate at Moderno, which everyone loved. Definitely save room for the grilled pineapple! La Cucina surprised me with how good it was - I got an alfredo with mushrooms and it was probably one of my favorite meals on the ship. And my husband and I both enjoyed stopping by the Sushi Bar for a roll or two before dinner some nights. And then there is “The Haven,” a private area of sophisticated luxury suites and villas atop the ship that can only be accessed by a special key-card protected entrance.

Pool musicians were very good quality...played some lovely music...also a spanish singer with a guitar...loved him. Serving a wide variety of culinary delights to please every palate, our complimentary dining options include two main dining rooms, a help-yourself buffet and a variety of casual cafés, grills and on-the-go choices. Plus, our Main Dining Rooms offer a menu that changes daily, Chef's Signature Dishes and carefully selected wine recommendations, guaranteeing a different culinary adventure with every visit. Adult and kids’ pools plus hot tubs are located on deck 12 and, quite naturally, are popular destinations for most guests.

If you are an active person, you’ll definitely want to spend time on deck 13, where you’ll find a walking/jogging track; a golf cage; a tennis/volleyball/basketball court; shuffleboard; a climbing wall; and larger-than-life chess and checkers’ games. Just around the corner from the spa is the Pulse Fitness Center, a full-scale gym for adults only that allows you to exercise while taking in the view. Exercise classes (yoga, Pilates, stretching, cycling) and personal training sessions are available for an added charge. O’Sheehan’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill, which serves 24 hours a day and is located on Deck 8, is set above the Atrium on the ship and serves traditional pub grub like burgers and fries. We stayed in the 2BR Family Suite and it was absolutely perfect for a family of 4. My 10 year old slept on the pull-out couch in the living room, and even being 6 inches away from the balcony, with the curtains closed the room was very dark.

With so much to do, we’ll always have you coming back for more. Many passengers come prepared for the ship's theme nights, one of which is the popular Glow Party, an amped-up version of the ship's former White Hot Party, where passengers are encouraged to wear white or neon clothing. The best part of this room is the perks that come with a suite (butler, concierge, priority embarkation and debarkation, special dining options, etc.) without having to pay for the Haven. We used all the extra amenities and would say it was 100% worth it - having the suite really made our vacation.

Fellow Passengers

Our gift shops onboard carry everything you’ll need for fun in the sun. Shop from a variety of souvenirs, cosmetics, clothing, snacks and sundry items. Treat yourself at our duty free shops full of fantastic savings on fine jewelry, accessories, perfume, liquor and tobacco. Revive, refresh and recharge in the Mandara Spa® and Body Waves Fitness Center.

Also you should have done your homework prior to the cruise. From casual buffets to exquisite specialty restaurants, learn everything there is to know about dining on board. All Suites and Balcony cabins feature floor-ceiling sliding doors opening to a private veranda with lounge furniture (1 round table with 2 chairs or sun loungers). You can see all the furniture details on the NCL Gem cabin floor plans in the table above. The Norwegian Gem cruise ship cabins page is conveniently interlinked with its deck plans showing deck layouts combined with a legend and review of all onboard venues. We have 8 year old triplets....we have to go in school holidays.

Liquor packages run $109/day, though you must buy a full package rather than individual days. Soda packages run $9.95 a day and Starbucks packages $12.95 a day (the coffee bar is located in the Atrium on Deck 7). A premium beverage package including all beverages is $138 per person/per day. All beverages can also be purchased a la carte. Bottles of water can be purchased on board as well, but there are also free “hydration stations” situated throughout the ship.

The Gem is considered a mid-size ship (about two-thirds the size of the newest NCL ships, the Prima and Viva). We have cruised on other lines before, and this was our first experience on NCL. First of all, I loved the Gem - the ship is perfectly sized for me. It was easy to get around, and there were lots of areas to sit and hang out with a book and a drink.

There was a divider built into the room between the very comfy bed and the couch, which pulls out into a bed; we didn’t notice the divider on our previous Gem cruise. There was a minifridge that included a container of water; you need a specific drink package to get containers (cardboard bottles) of water without paying extra. On the way back from Bermuda, when the seas were rough, our cabin was less rock-and-roll-y than I heard other cabins forward, aft, and/or higher were. The food by far exceeded my expectations - even the buffet! I am not a buffet fan, and yet we found ourselves there pretty often and I enjoyed pretty much everything I tried.

I also loved the deck 6 bar area where the martini and wine bars and Maltings are situated. There was really nice seating all around and my husband and I enjoyed MANY delicious martinis while gazing out the windows and people-watching. It was way too crowded around the pools...just not enough sun beds or space.

Or don your best neon attire and dance the night away during our Glow Party. A true experience of luxury and privacy. Enjoy spacious suites accented by only the finest touches throughout. And enough room to make a lifetime of amazing memories. Join the party at the liveliest nightspots on the ship, Bliss Ultra Lounge & Night Club, which features a stylish bar area and swanky lounge. The bathroom had clearly been redone at a refitting the Gem had undergone since we were last on it, and it looked fresh.

La Cucina, on Deck 12, a traditional Italian restaurant offering pasta, pizza, and other Italian staples for a prix fixe price of $59.99 per person.

Upon request the first night, our room steward brought us bath robes, a mattress topper, and an extra roll of toilet paper. My wife asked for a coffee machine, but it never arrived. We saw our room steward twice the entire cruise, which was much, much less than our previous cruises and less than we preferred. He did a good job making up the room around our schedule, though, and we left a tip each day.

The huge tv screen in the reception lounge was very glaring...no one could watch it with its glaring neon psychedelic colors, heat images and electro funk clips...how this added to the ambiance of the room i'll never know. And to top it, they put the classical quartet playing in front of it. It needs something more relaxing and beautiful to watch to match the music and purpose of the room.

9 Things to Know When Planning a Cruise Wedding

can you get married on a cruise

Disney Cruise Line offers six venues, including indoor and outdoor spots on its ships (accommodating up to 40 guests) and on Castaway Cay (the line's private island in the Bahamas, which can host up to 100 guests). You can have costumed Mickey and Minnie join you for photos or offer a Dole Whip unity ceremony, as one couple did. The final option is to get married at a cruise line's private island or during a port stop in another country. For local flavor, you might be able to weave in reggae music in the background while in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, or gift guests leis in Honolulu. The drawback is that you can't control all of your surroundings; for example, the ceremony might be on a public beach.

Coolest Perk of a Celebrity Cruise Wedding:

All Carnival wedding packages can be arranged to take place on embarkation day, onboard the ship in a port of call, off the ship in a port of call and onboard while at sea (symbolic only). Weddings start at $1,800 for HAL's onboard At Sea Symbolic ceremony with up to eight guests on all sailings. That price includes an onsite wedding coordinator, a ship officer to perform the ceremony, flowers for the couple, a bottle of sparkling wine, a small wedding cake, a commemorative photo album, recorded music and a keepsake wedding certificate. Among the choices for Royal Caribbean wedding packages, you have an option to get married at sea, with your ship's captain or first officer officiating a ceremony that includes special nautical vows. There are three packages to choose from, including a small-scale ceremony option, though prices for the larger packages are on par with Disney Cruise Line. Also like Disney, a reception is not included in Royal Caribbean's wedding package prices.

MSC Cruise Weddings

"They'll jump on the flight to the island and meet the couple and then stay on the island for a few days," she says. "You can have non-guests in ports of call come on the ship but usually the couple comes off the ship to get married on the beach." "The average number of guests is about 40, but we host weddings of all sizes — from only the couples themselves to very large parties," said Lupoli.

Norwegian Cruise Line Weddings

Additionally, opting for a Concierge Class elevates the experience with added luxuries and personalized services, making it ideal for couples celebrating their nuptials. The line's at-sea wedding package is one of the pricier base rates on this list, starting at $3,300. Carnival cruise weddings appeal to younger couples thanks to the line's famous amenities and spirited, party-friendly atmosphere. It's also one of the least expensive cruise wedding options on this list.

Coolest Perk of a Princess Cruise Wedding:

The cost of getting married on a cruise ship will vary depending on the port destination where you decide to tie the knot. On our Celebrity Weddings and Events site, you can search all of our wedding port options and find out important information including estimated pricing (for both shipboard and on land weddings), marriage licensing requirements, and venue options. Don't worry — you don't have to find an available officiant in Jamaica or the Bahamas. For example, all three of Princess Cruises' wedding packages include either a legal ceremony by the captain or one performed by a local officiant in port.

Weddings in ports of call can be fabulous, but what happens if the ship has to cancel the call? Consider very carefully ports that require ships to tender; Grand Cayman, for instance, can be a highly unpredictable site, as winds often hamper tender operations, causing cruise ships to skip stops at the island. For the same reason, we don't recommend planning a shoreside wedding at a Caribbean or Mexican locale during hurricane season (June through November). Weddings can only take place on sea days and on cruises lasting at least seven nights.

For a wedding photo to remember, couples can opt to have their pictures snapped on MSC's dazzling Swarovski crystal-encrusted staircases. We have included third party products to help you navigate and enjoy life’s biggest moments. You’ll also have the option of having an Event Manager or Event Coordinator to consult with before and during the cruise to make sure everything is set up perfectly for your proposal. If you’ve recently gotten engaged (congratulations!) and are looking into celebrating your wedding on a cruise, there are a couple of things you should decide before saying “I do”.

Since wedding planning is notorious for involving a lot of work and decision-making, some people find themselves pleasantly surprised when they start browsing cruise wedding packages. Booking a wedding on a cruise ship can be a one-stop shop that simplifies the process. Princess Cruises' three packages (At Sea Wedding Cruise, Harborside Wedding Cruise and Ashore Wedding Cruise) fold in all the details for a flat fee and also offer a registry so that guests can help amp up the luxuries on their honeymoon at sea.

When it comes to the guest list for a cruise wedding, size does matter, but perhaps not as much as you’d think. This allows for a grand celebration with all your loved ones, ensuring that your special day is as inclusive as it is memorable. Getting married legally while at sea is complicated, so understand all the logistics before signing on, and plan well in advance. Legalizing a wedding in a foreign port can also be tricky, so ask your wedding planner to explain all the details and suggest which cruise port on your itinerary is your best bet for a wedding spot. In some cases, you might need to do the legal paperwork before or after your cruise wedding and have that ceremony be symbolic only. Every wedding is different, so we offer packages designed around your wishes.

Only couples with a relatively small guest list are able to conduct their wedding onboard a cruise ship. Most lines restrict onboard wedding parties to 50 non-sailing guests maximum. It’s important to decide if most of the wedding guests will only be along for the vows, or if friends and family are also cruising with you. If you extend the invitation for the latter, be sure to book your cruise wedding well in advance.

We're lucky in Florida, home to some of the world's busiest cruise ports including PortMiami, Port Canaveral, Port Everglades, Port Tampa Bay, JAXPORT, and Port of Palm Beach. There is also a port in Key West, but this is mainly used for cruise ship calls rather than a homeport. Instead, focus on informing guests about the general sailing and the unique experience of a cruise wedding. Princess Cruises reports that 75% of its weddings are conducted at sea. But remember, these weddings often need to be held indoors due to factors like wind, rain, or limited deck space.

You’ll enjoy group cruise deals, low deposits, and a more flexible payment schedule. On the other hand, if guests are traveling just for the ceremony, be sure to advise them to fly in well before the day so they don’t miss the big event. Same-sex marriages are a possibility in countries where they are recognized. Of course, any couple can also opt for a symbolic ceremony, meaning that there is still all the pomp and circumstance of a celebration, without it being legally binding. Items ranging from flowers, alcohol and sweets to spa treatments and shore excursions are available for purchase online pre-cruise or while on the ship.

With that in mind, it's important to know your guest list (or at least the age restrictions of your wedding) before you book. Aurora and Arcadia are child-free (nobody younger than 18 is allowed onboard), while Azura, Brittania, and Ventura allow children. Whether you want to organize a destination wedding at an international port, or hold an intimate ceremony onboard with a handful of guests, here’s everything you need to know about getting married at sea.

It’s probably best to leave the giant gift box of fine China at home and opt for either a cash gift or utilize the couple’s registry to mail them their present ahead of time. Some cruise lines even offer their own registry and wedding websites. This allows the cruising couple to register for shipside gifts like spa treatments, excursions, and onboard spending money. The answer is a resounding yes, but there are some caveats, and some couples choose to make a trip to city hall before or after their cruise to get the legality out of the way and marry however they like during their sailing.

Carnival Cruise Line, for instance, states that guests need to contact the Wedding Department no later than 60 business days (about 2.5 months) prior to the sail date. You can also return to your cabin on your wedding day to find that, after a dramatic carried-over-the-threshold moment, your room is decked out in "just married" decorations and towel swans. Decorations, which can range from balloons to flameless candles and towers of Champagne glasses, can be customized to your vision, with advance approval of the cruise line.

If you're getting married on embarkation day at a domestic port such as Miami, Seattle, New Orleans or Fort Lauderdale, you can bring your own officiant to conduct a legal wedding, the same as you would at any land-based wedding venue. If your ceremony will take place during the cruise, either a local notary public (for ports in the U.S.) or a nondenominational officiant (international ports) will preside over the ceremony, making the wedding legal. At-sea nuptials have many selling points — including a wedding planner and a built-in honeymoon — especially for couples looking for smaller, more intimate weddings (up to 125 guests). Yet before you decide to get married on a cruise ship, you'll want to understand all the pros and cons.

Unveiling the Enigma: Walter Palmer's Dental Dilemma

Walter Palmer is a dentist who has been the subject of controversy since he killed Cecil the lion in 2015. Following the incident, Palmer's dental practice was vandalized and he received numerous death threats. As a result, he was forced to close his practice and go into hiding. In 2017, Palmer attempted to reopen his practice, but he was met with further protests and threats. He has not been able to practice dentistry since then.

The killing of Cecil the lion sparked a global outcry and led to calls for stricter hunting regulations. It also raised questions about the ethics of trophy hunting. Palmer has defended his actions, saying that he believed he was hunting legally and that he did not know that Cecil was a well-known lion. However, many people believe that Palmer's actions were unethical and that he should be held accountable for his role in Cecil's death.
